War Plan Orange Delayed (PBEM Vlad vs Meroka37)

Coincidiendo con el inicio de una partida PBEM del War Plan Orange me he decidido a escribir un AAR conforme avance la partida. Yo llevo a los japos.

Se trata de la campaña 1922-1926, con una particularidad, en esta partida Estados Unidos se mantiene neutral durante los 2 primeros años de la guerra.

'Cuando el conflicto entre Japon y Estados Unidos parecía a punto de estallar, los plenipotenciarios de ambas naciones han sorprendido al mundo con un pacto de no agresión... el resto de aliados han presentado una queja formal ante los embajadores
americanos por la firma de este acuerdo sin haber sido previamente informados'; Estados Unidos podría estar jugando a dejar manos libres al Japón con el fin de debilitar a otras potencias del Pacifico (Gran Bretaña, China, Holanda), y posteriormente entrar en la refriega con una posición de más fuerza sobre sus aliados y frente a un Japón más desgastado. Los governantes japoneses son conscientes de esto, pero necesitan ganar tiempo.

Esto hace cambiar completamente la estrategia inicial del Japón, el plan por defecto es atacar y ocupar Filipinas antes de que
pueda reaccionar la marina americana; ahora con las fuerzas listas para ejecutar la invasión se pasa al Plan B; que consiste en atacar simultaneamente las colonias Británicas y Holandesas, dejando de momento de lado China y por supuesto las posesiones
americanas.

Objetivos iniciales: Hong Kong, Singapur,Tarakan, Rabaul, Shanghai

En este escenario Japón empieza con solo 109 aeronaves y sin portaaviones, algunos llegan como refuerzo posteriormente.



Días 31 de mayo y 1 de junio; no pasa nada especial.

2 de junio 1922; empieza operación anfibia en Hong Kong con un desastre debido a los campos minados y las baterias costeras.

Sí, sabia que me costaría caro lo de Hong Kong, pero empezaba con los barcos llenos y sin poderlos enviar a las filipinas, si queria aprovechar el bonus inicial no tenía muchos sitios a donde enviarlos y tarde o temprano hay que conquistar HK...

Siguen los combates en Hong Kong, una segunda oleada de invasión esta siendo embarcada; los combates terrestres han conseguido reducir el nivel de fortificación.

La fuerza de invasión de Malasia se va acercando a sus objetivos, se prepara invasión de Shanghai.

Primer ataque de un submarino japones a una unidad enemiga, se trata de un petrolero que navegaba muy cerca de la costa filipina, esperemos que no fuera americano , no ha tenido exito



Fuerzas japonesas desembarcan en Wewak.



Borneo recibirá pronto visita

Siguen los combates en Hong Kong, un grupo de barreminas llega tarde pero consigue abrir una brecha el campo de minas, eso si lo pagan caro por el fuego costero, esto ayudará para la segunda oleada de invasión; las pérdidas acumuladas alrededor de Hong Kong son altas, 6 Destructores y 14 trasportes hundidos por las minas y las baterías costeras.

Se realizan desembarcos en Borneo (Brunei, Tarakan, Balikapan)



Los primeros grupos anfibios toman tierra en Malasia.



Desembarcos en Rabaul se encuentran con una fuerte resistencia.

Lo de los ataques aéreos será algo esporádico, supongo. Después de todo, es 1922...

Muy pocos, piensa que en total Japon parte con algo mas de 100 aviones, los cazas apenas tienen una autonomia de 2 hexes, son biplanos y los bombarderos algunos más, hasta que no avance un poco la guerra no recibo portaaviones, así que no; para hacer reconocimiento hay que utilizar unidades de superficie, principalmente cruceros ligeros y los submarinos; significa que obtener información de las task force enemigas es mucho mas complicado que en WiTP; la primera vez que detectas al enemigo puede ser tu última vez

9 de junio de 1922

Tras casi 10 días de guerra la flota enemiga empieza a dar señales de vida; cerca de Kuatan se producen varios combates navales entre una flotilla de destructores británicos y la escolta del grupo de transporte, los nipones se llevan la peor parte, 3 destructores hundidos por 1 del enemigo; posteriormente el submarino SS N-19 hunde a otro destructor de la Royal Navy. Tambien hace su aparición una escuadra china compuesta por 4 CL y 3 DD se enfrenta a un grupo japones de 4 BB y 7 DD;
se salda el combate con algunas unidades dañadas y el hundimiento de un destructor chino.

En cuanto a guerra submarina, aparte del mencionado hundimiento del Destructor Truculent; el submarino aliado K-16 torpedea al AP Terukuri Maru; el SS nº28 (IJN) falla en su ataque al AK Oklahoman.

Noticias positivas, han sido capturadas Tarakan, Brunei, Balikpapan.

Tras casi 10 días de guerra la flota enemiga empieza a dar señales de vida; cerca de Kuatan se producen varios combates navales entre una flotilla de destructores británicos y la escolta del grupo de transporte, los nipones se llevan la peor parte, 3 destructores hundidos por 1 del enemigo; posteriormente el submarino SS N-19 hunde a otro destructor de la Royal Navy. Tambien hace su aparición una escuadra china compuesta por 4 CL y 3 DD se enfrenta a un grupo japones de 4 BB y 7 DD;
se salda el combate con algunas unidades dañadas y el hundimiento de un destructor chino.

En cuanto a guerra submarina, aparte del mencionado hundimiento del Destructor Truculent; el submarino aliado K-16 torpedea al AP Terukuri Maru; el SS nº28 (IJN) falla en su ataque al AK Oklahoman.

Noticias positivas, han sido capturadas Tarakan, Brunei, Balikpapan.

- Cerca de Kuantan un grupo de superficie japones con 4 BB y 6 DD sorprender una flotilla de destructores/torpederos y hunde
a 10 torpederos y 1 destructor.
- Las operaciones en Rabaul y Port Moresby siguen en marcha sin oposición naval enemiga.

Aquí se acabaron las buenas noticias;ahora las malas:

- El enemigo ha reforzado Hong-Kong con cerca más 110000 hombres, que superan en 6 a 1 a los japoneses; ahora estoy replanteandome si enviar la segunda oleada de desembarco que ya está en camino con unos 25000 hombres o abortar la misma y enviar estas fuerzas como refuerzo al desembarco en Shanghai que ya está a 1-2 días de su objetivo.
No parece que a corto plazo vaya a poder tomar Hong-Kong, y tengo un monton de divisiones esperando en tierra a que vuelvan los transportes de Malasia, así que podría tardar bastantes días en poder reforzar las unidades de HK.

- Las flotas francesa y holandesa han dado señales de vida y se han unido a los británicos y chinos en machacar los grupos de transporte que están acabando de desembarcar en Kuantan. Es de destacar el variopinto grupo de superficie compuesto por 3 acorazados holandeses y 2 cruceros ligero chinos.

- Las bajas acumuladas son superiores a lo esperado:la IJN ha perdido 18 destructores, 2 barreminas, y 21 transportes (AK/AP) , mientras que los aliados 3 destructores y 10 torpederos. O freno este ritmo o me quedo sin destructores antes de un mes de guerra.

En cuanto a la guerra submarina; han habido varios ataques, la mitad de ellos sin efecto, los submarinos holandeses se muestran muy activos.

En este turno son tomados: Mersing, Khota Bharu, Kuching y Shanghai.

Finalmente decido enviar todos los refuerzos embarcados hacía Hong Kong, dos grupos de transporte que habían participado en la invasión de Hong Kong han vuelto a las bases de Formosa, ahora puedo embarcar un par de divisiones más y enviarlas a HK. Shanghai y Hong Kong son dos bases fundamentales para los aliados en el area ya que son las únicas con capacidad para reparar grandes barcos.

Ya está casi acabada la tarea de desembarcar suministros en Kuantan, así que doy orden de volver a todos los sufridos transportes del grupo anfibio, pero antes una escuadra combinada aliada vuelve a atacar al grupo; la escolta de 1 CL y 3 DD sale al encuentro, los transportes quedan intactos pero la escolta sufre multiples impactos, la fuerza enemiga compuesta por 3 BB holandeses, 3 CA franceses, 3 CL británicos y 3 CL chinos, sufre tambien multiples impactos.
