Anglo German War 39-45:
principios del 2005... aunque en el foro del juego incluso se creía que estaría listo a finales de diciembre.
Aquí os dejo un estracto de la entrevista con su diseñador, Ron Dockal:
WG: Give us a brief overview of The Anglo German War 39-45, such as its scope, map size, unit size, and the like.
RD: The scope of The Anglo German War 39-45 is to cover all major land battles in Europe/North Africa from 1939 to 1945 except for the battles in Russia east of 1939 Poland. Air and Naval operations will be available that impact the land battles. Several new air/naval operations and capabilities that were not in The Russo-German War 41-44 are planned for The Anglo German War 39-45. Some examples are naval combat, air-naval combat, and strategic bombing. A Campaign Game that covers all of the individual scenarios is also planned for The Anglo German War 39-45.
The map size is 294 x 264 hexes. In comparison, The Russo-German War 41-44 was 154 x 136 hexes. The map covers Southern Norway to North Africa, France to slightly east of 1939 Poland. One of the first differences between The Russo-German War 41-44 and The Anglo German War 39-45 our customers will notice is the terrain graphics. While The Russo-German War 41-44 used 8-bit two-dimensional graphics, The Anglo German War 39-45 uses 24-bit three-dimensional terrain graphics created with Adobe Photoshop. We will be showing some screenshots in the near future. Get ready for a significant improvement to our Schwerpunkt wargames in the terrain graphics area. However, our new terrain graphics will still be easy to interpret. Rivers in The Anglo German War 39-45 are on hexsides.
The unit size will vary from regiment to division, with most units being at the division level. However, there will be more regiment and brigade size units in The Anglo German War 39-45 than in The Russo-German War 41-44 due to the nature of the conflict on the West Front (e.g. North Africa).
WG: Will The Anglo German War 39-45 be scenario-based, like The Russo-German War 41-44? How many scenarios do you envision in the final version? How many hypothetical scenarios will there be?
RD: The Anglo German War 39-45 is scenario-based, with the scenario being selected in the same way it was done in The Russo-German War 41-44 (during setup). We have identified 40 scenarios, plus the Campaign Game. Below is the current list:

The Anglo German War 39-45 Campaign 39-45
Blank Scenario
Only two hypothetical scenarios are currently planned (#5 Operation Sealion and #8 Malta), but additional hypothetical scenarios can be built using an improved text-based Scenario Editor. The Scenario Editor will allow building of scenarios using your favorite word processor capabilities (e.g. cut and paste, copy) rather than sequencing through dialog boxes.
The opening blitzkrieg, North Africa and Italy battles are covered with a rich set of scenarios. Scenarios #3, and #28 through #37 will allow us to discontinue our old DOS-based wargame called Storm in the West. For you The Russo-German War 41-44 gamers who wanted to see the capture of Berlin, note scenarios #38 through #40.
WG: How will production/resource-gathering be handled?
RD: The simple method of historical Production/Manpower points used in The Russo-German War 41-44 is not sufficient for modeling The Anglo German War 39-45 production. More player production choices will be available in The Anglo German War 39-45, such as selection of building more tank units at the expense of other types of units. Control of cities and industrial areas in The Anglo German War 39-45 will determine total production points. The player will select reinforcements at a cost per unit type. The impacts of the Atlantic Naval battles will be modeled using optional rules.
WG: Since The Anglo German War 39-45 covers the entire span of the war (1939-1945), will weapons research and development have a place in the game?
RD: The historical improvement of weapons technology will be modeled in The Anglo German War 39-45 as part of the Production rules. Additionally, we will have several player-selected optional rules that allow technology events to occur earlier or later. An example of this type of rule is in The Russo-German War 41-44, where the German Early Jet Technology rule limited Russian air operations.
WG: An old PC title called High Command: 1939-1945 made a good attempt at incorporating Political Points which, like Resource Points, could be accumulated and allocated to political tasks (such as trying to sway minor countries to the gamer's side, or spying on computer-run major powers). Will The Anglo German War 39-45 try to simulate the complicated political climate of Europe during this era?
RD: While we realize the importance of politics in the conflict, we believe that a game like Diplomacy would be better suited to model it. The Anglo German War 39-45 is primarily operational level warfare, with impacts based on politics. However, The Anglo German War 39-45 will have many optional rules such as surrenders and alliance changes that model political event impacts. Also, The Anglo German War 39-45's winner determination for several scenarios will be impacted by political considerations based on optional rule selection. However, the historically neutral countries in The Anglo German War 39-45 (Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and Sweden) will remain neutral.
WG: Will the Battle of the Atlantic (and the Mediterranean) be important factors in The Anglo German War 39-45?
RD: The Battle for the Atlantic will have several player selected optional rules in The Anglo German War 39-45, but a future wargame is planned to completely model it. However, the battle for the Mediterranean is an integral part of The Anglo German War 39-45, especially the North African scenarios. Axis supply to North Africa, naval combat ops (new), air-naval combat (new) and the importance of control of Malta and Crete are operationally covered in The Anglo German War 39-45.
WG: How many 'sides' will be depicted in the game (in other words, how many players can be involved, which sides can they play)?
RD: The Anglo German War 39-45 can be played by a single player playing both Axis and Allies sides, a single player playing against the computer opponent, and PBEM. All three methods can be multi-player as determined during setup. The number of players will be configurable by country as part of scenario setup. Each player will have a mini-phase for each phase (e.g. Ground Move). The exact number of players for the Axis and Allies is in development, and has not yet been determined.
