How to find the best available server manually
Do these steps before creating a lobby if you want to play on a good unmodded server.
This only takes 1-2 minutes.
1) Open console (`). If you can't open it, go Options -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Activate developer console.
2) Type "openserverbrowser". You can type "op" and hit Tab button to do this faster.
3) Click Refresh.
4) Click Ping to sort servers by ping.
5) Now put in tags: "empty,GAMEMODE" but instead of GAMEMODE type one of these: Coop, Realism, Versus, Scavenge, Survival, Team Versus, Team Scavenge.
6) First servers in the list are the best ones for you. Ensure those servers have no players connected (some servers have "empty" tag but it's not actually empty). Do not select those servers, do not perform steps 7-9 for them.
7) Choose one of servers, right-click on it and select Server Information.
8 Double-click server IP adress and hit Ctrl+C to copy its adress.
9) Bring back the console and type:
mm_dedicated_force_servers
then hit Ctrl+V to paste the IP. You should have something like this:
mm_dedicated_force_servers 195.72.xxx.yy:27015. You can also select more than one server at once, see below.
10) Create lobby, wait for players. Start game. It takes 1-15 seconds to start connecting to the server you found.
11) If it created a local server it means the server(s) you selected has already got players on it. Before you return back to lobby, do this all again quickly and find another server. Try selecting more servers next time.
You can avoid modded 8vs8 servers easily.
Note: you can also select more than one server at once:
mm_dedicated_force_servers xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx,yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy:yyyyy
No spaces. No other symbols. Only "," between IPs.
The more servers you add, the more chances you have to connect to one of them and not host a local one.
I recommend you to select 2-3 servers to be sure you will connect to another server if first one becomes not empty.
